Innsbruk Airport

Innsbruck Airport (IATA: INN, ICAO: LOWI), also known as Kranebitten Airport, is the main international airport serving the Tyrol region of western Austria. Situated just about 4 km west of Innsbruck city centre, it lies at an elevation of approximately 581 m (1,906 ft), surrounded by the dramatic peaks of the Alps.

Originally opened in 1925, the airport has grown to become a critical gateway for winter sports tourism, especially during ski season, when traffic surges as visitors flock to nearby alpine resorts. It features a single 2,000m runway, which accommodates a variety of aircraft, including regional jets and narrow-body airliners.

Despite its modest size, the terminal offers essential services: check-in counters, self-service kiosks, duty-free shopping, cafés, and a lounge with panoramic mountain views. Ground transportation is well connected - bus line F links the airport with Innsbruck Hauptbahnhof (main train station) in about 18 minutes, while taxis provide a quick 10-minute ride to the city.

Due to its location in a narrow alpine valley, approaches can be challenging, especially in winter, requiring specially trained pilots for safe landings. Overall, Innsbruck Airport combines alpine charm, efficiency, and vital regional connectivity, making it a convenient entry point into Tyrol.
