Nordkette ski resort overview:
Nordkette is a unique ski area in Tyrol, Austria, rising dramatically above the city of Innsbruck and forming part of the Karwendel mountain range. What makes Nordkette special is its easy access from town - you can reach the ski slopes from the city centre in about 20 minutes via the Hungerburg funicular and Nordkette cable cars. The ski terrain spans elevations from around 860m at the base to approximately 2,256m at Hafelekar summit, offering roughly 13–15km of marked pistes alongside additional ski routes. Most of the prepared slopes are intermediate in difficulty, with a few easy runs and a challenging black section, but the real highlight for advanced skiers and freeriders is the Hafelekarrinne - a legendary couloir with gradients up to 70%, known as one of Europe’s steepest ski routes. Nordkette also features the Skylinepark snowpark at Seegrube, perfect for freestyle skiers and snowboarders, plus a small kids’ area and magic carpet for beginners. The breathtaking views over the Innsbruck valley and surrounding Alps make skiing here especially memorable - even if you’re simply taking in the scenery from one of the sun terraces above the city.
