Obergurgl ski resort overview:

Obergurgl is one of Austria’s highest and most snow-sure ski resorts, located at 1,930 metres in the Ötztal Valley. Often referred to as the “Diamond of the Alps,” it combines reliable snow conditions with a peaceful, high-quality atmosphere. Together with neighbouring Hochgurgl, the resort forms the Gurgl ski area, offering extensive terrain above the tree line and a long season that typically runs from November through late April.

The ski area provides around 110 kilometres of well-groomed pistes, catering mainly to beginners and intermediate skiers. Wide, open slopes make it ideal for confident cruising, while gentle nursery areas near the village help newcomers build skills in a relaxed environment. Advanced skiers can enjoy more challenging red and black runs, as well as some rewarding off-piste opportunities after fresh snowfall. Modern lifts link Obergurgl and Hochgurgl efficiently, reducing queues and allowing visitors to explore the full area with ease.

Unlike some larger Austrian resorts, Obergurgl has a calm and refined feel. The village is compact and attractive, with ski-in, ski-out hotels, traditional Alpine architecture, and welcoming mountain huts serving regional Tyrolean cuisine. Après-ski is sociable but not overly wild, appealing to families and couples seeking quality rather than all night partying. With its high altitude, dependable snow, and relaxed charm, Obergurgl offers a premium yet understated Alpine skiing experience.
